21st Avenue Corridor Study, Nashville, TN
RPM Transportation Consultants developed a transportation and land use plan for the densely developed 21st Avenue Corridor in Nashville. The study evaluated the existing land use/zoning, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, traffic volumes, and transit. Then future (Year 2025) land use projections were developed, and future traffic volumes were calculated to determine the future demands in the area. The study focused on creating a safer and more efficient pedestrian and bicycle environment as well as improving transit services. The recommendations included constructing new sidewalks and replacing old sidewalks, improving pedestrian crossings at signalized intersections, creating new bicycle lanes, and removing obstacles for pedestrians and bicyclists. In the residential areas, traffic calming measures were recommended to reduce traffic volumes and speeds through the neighborhoods. From the three public meetings held, the input received from neighbors and business owners helped prioritize the concepts of the plans. RPM Transportation Consultants also worked with a Technical Advisory Committee and the Metro Planning Commission to assist in the guidance of the project.
